The RAAF Williams Amateur Radio Club (Radio Callsign VK3APP) is the only amateur radio station in the Air Force. It consists of a group of radio enthusiasts with wide interests covering almost all aspects of amateur radio. The club is equipped offering facilities and activities to suit its member's. The club participates in radio related activities throughout the year. Including contests, community service, training activities and licence examinations.

Each year the club operates a Jamboree of the Air (JOTA) station on behalf of the Guides and Scouts. The clubrooms are organised to facilitate local and worldwide communications between other local and international groups.

Training activities need special mention. As part of international agreements and Federal law, all operators of radio transmitting equipment need to be licenced. A special group of licences, called amateur licences, require knowledge in radio and electrical theory, relevant radio regulations, and in some cases the ability to send and receive Morse code. The club offers training and assistance to enable members to gain or upgrade their licences.

The club has an efficient antenna system along with powerful transceivers to allow long range national and international communications. The VHF radio system operates in FM mode and offers local, short range, noise free communications. This range is extended by the use of repeaters which cover Melbourne, Geelong, Ballarat and Shepparton. Packet Radio is a radio version of the Internet, using radio links instead of telephone lines, and the club has this quipment.

The club meets every Friday night at 1930 hours at the station in Bell Parade RAAF Base Williams Laverton. The clubrooms are easy to find, simply look for the radio tower and the ground satellite dish. Melways Map 053B9
