I studied electronics engineering in the late eighties and have always been interested in radio communications but I generally worked in digital communications and software engineering.

I finally obtained my amateur license in June 2012 after many years of procrastination. My first callsign was VK3JAE.

In November 2012 a number of 2 letter callsigns became available, and I now mainly use VK3LP.

I operate from two locations. We live in Heathmont, Melbourne during the week and get down to our small hobby farm on the weekends which is a great location for working HF bands. It is much quieter than in the city.

My first HF radio is an IC-735. I have experimented with various wire antennas and have settled for now on a home made G5RV.

I also have a IC-706MKIIG which I mainly use now

I also have an interest in SDR radios, I have exerimented with RTL dongles and Softrocks. I have several Softrocks running as a WebSDR (see websdr.org) at my site site http://websdr.auckett.net:8901
