Greetings friends, my introduction to radio was via the CB band in the late 70's. Then in the mid 80's I obtained my amateur radio licence. I aimed for and managed to get my full call first up and my first call sign was VK3DYP. I later got my call sign changed to VK3CGR then was offered my current call sign VK3SS by the son, David Scott VK3DY, of the original owner Kieth who lived in the area and was an early pioneer of portable/mobile HF amateur radio in the Australian outback in his old Landrover, back in the days when transcievers were very different to today's.

I enjoy HF DX and local rag chewing but have had periods of being inactive over the years. I have recently gotten back into the hobby, Dec'15, after a six year absence. My wife of 21 years, Mayumi, a Japanese national, and I live on a small (by Australian standards) farm on a ridge top approx 220 klms east of Melbourne, near Stratford, with our dog, Jack. Mayumi works as a high school teacher whilst my occupation is paramedic.

I lived in Japan from 1990 to 1993 where I met Mayumi and have been back a number of times, on one occassion showing my brother and his wife around. I also enjoy writing a bit of poetry, trying to play the guitar and motorcycle touring; and can communicate in Japanese reasonably well. Mayumi & I visited my father's home country, Ireland in 2014 and back in 1978 I spent a few weeks in Europe with a Swiss friend of mine at the time and have spent a couple of days in Singapore with Mayumi, returning to Australia from Japan, some years ago. That is pretty much the extent of my travels thus far.

Anyway we hope to do further travelling in the future and see some more of this beautiful turbulant planet of ours and look forward to meeting some of you good folk along the way. I'd like to get along to some hamfests in other countries one day as well as attend some more of our Ozzie ones. It'd be good if we didn't have to work but had sufficient funds to just enjoy other pursuits, hi.

Well, thanks for reading this and best wishes,

Paul (& Mayumi)
