Hi,

I was first interested in Ham radio many years ago (mid 70's) but did nothing about it then. In September 2010 I gained my Foundation licence (VK5FAAB) and after a short while decided to start my studies for upgrade to advanced.

I passed the Advanced theory & Regulation exams on 26-Feb-2011 and now have the callsign VK5KX smiley.

I still have a long way to go in this hobby, but i will continue to evolve & learn as I make the journey.

Late 2011 my nanna passed away and left me a small sum of money, so what better way to remember her than to purchase some radio equipment that would remind me of her every time I'm operating.

  • The first bit of kit was to order an Icom IC-7600 (this blends in well with the IC-7000, IC-7100, IC-7200 & ID-5100 radios I already had).
  • Needed an SM-50 mic to drive the rig.  This was upgraded to a Heil iCM then upgraded again to a Heil PR-781G.
  • And also a Heil Pro-Set Elite headset (upgraded to RadioSport RS60CF) with a footswitch for the odd contest.
  • Next bit was a Yaesu G-450 rotator.
  • The near last bit of kit was a K4KIO HexBeam (5 bands with 6m added), this is now at 10m height.

I have mounted the hexbeam & rotator, currently the cabling is entering through the window to the shack, will have to clean that up one day soon. the 78' longwire with AH-4 tuner still gets used for local 80m & 40m and testing the airwaves on other bands.
