G'Day!!

I'm Jono, VK6DF  I hold an Australian "Advanced" Amateur license.

I live in the "north west" of Australia. Officially called the Pilbara which is huge part of the state of Western Australia and is where most of the mining and resource work is located. Mainly Iron Ore mining in-land and Oil and Gas on the coast.

Iv been living out here (1500km north of the capital city of Perth) for the last 10 years. I spent 3yrs living in a remote mining town called Tom Price (West Australia's highest town 750m above sea level) which is where Iron Ore is mined and transported by West Australia's largest private rail network to the Coastal town of Karratha which is where i know currently live.

I now spend alot of my time working offshore on the Oil and Gas rigs.

Karratha (and near by town Dampier) were built in the early 60's as port towns for the mining companies to ship out there products to mainly Asian countries. Karratha has around 20,000 residents with about another 5000 "fly in fly out" workers for the mining and resource companies.

More on the area and some nice photo's can be viewed at http://www.pilbaracoast.com/towns/karratha

Something cool about my callsign, its been used in a movie!
These Final Hours was released in 2014. An Australian made film based in the city of Perth, West Australia. During the film there is a radio operator which can be heard making transmissions using VK6DF callsign. You can take a look at a clip of it here. there is some drug use, adult themes and language warning.
