Update 02/12/2016

VU7MS went QRT at 23:40 UTC on 01 Dec 2016. We had to dismantle the station and antennas and catch the vessel in an hour and half!

We logged 3333 QSOs during our operation of 42.4 hours. We worked on 40/20/17 & 15m bands. Maximum QSOs were on 40m band.

We caught the interisland vessel today morning at 0700 LT ( 01:30 UTC) and reached Agatti Island ( where airport is situated). The lone flight which connects the Island with mainland carried us back to Bangalore vis Kochi. We landed in Bangalore at 15:30 LT ( 10:00 UTC)

The final log is uploaded to Clublog and I have started getting many log check requests. Please give me some time for all log check requests to come and then will start the QSL process.

I would like to apologise for delay in replying to all emails which were sent to us when we were on island. The internet connection was virtually non-existent and we had no choice but to operate to a plan after discussion with our VU friends on mainland.

I would like to thank the whole dx community for the whole hearted support and cooperation. For a two man, limited logitics operation, we are happy with the response we got from the whole community. Please contact me on email if you have any queries/ suggestions.

Thank you & 73

Manoj VU2CPL for VU7MS team.

Update 30/11/2016

We landed on Agatti Is yesterday noon and after 1:30 hour ship journey reached Kavaratti. After a nice lunch, went about exploring our resort to scout for good locations for antenna.

This is what we have come up with.

The best is a 40m vertical on 12m spider pole right at the beach facing west.

There is a seperate 15m vertical also at the beach

There are two verticals at 45 feet on top of the resort building for 20 and 17m.

We have limited run of coax cables, so we have decided to have 2 operating locations ( one from the room and other in a hut at the beach. This means we have to carry all gear ( radio amplifier, laptop and cables ) if we have to QSY.

The internet is very poor and this message is being sent using my friends connection. It took almost 15 minutes to browse a few pages.

The first log upload has happened to clublog now and I request everyone to check the same to ensure we dont have dupes in the log. Please remember there are many waiting for VU7 as an ATNO.

I would like to thank all for a very disciplined operation which makes it very easy at the buisness end ( we had a few stubbborn people who didint like a geo focus call). Please be patient and I am sure this holiday has transformed more into a dxpedition than holiday now and we will spend most of our time dishing out QSOs.

If we miss some, please bear with us, we have limited resources.

Hope to give you and update and log upload tomorrow again at this time.

Plan for today is to be on 17m/20m till 1700 hrs LT ( 11:30 UTC) and then move to 40m for the rest of the night. Hope to work many more tonight.

Manoj VU2CPL for VU7MS team.

VU2CPL Manoj and VU3NXI Siddhu will be QRV form Kavaratti Island, Lakshadweep from 29 Nov 2016 till 02 Dec 2016.

Operations will be holiday style on 40/20/17/15 m bands on CW & SSB. We will try and be QRV near IOTA frequencies as much as possible and will be operating split always. Only one station will be QRV at a time due to limitations in logistics(Only a small aircraft operates to the island and baggage allowance is only 15kg per person.)

IC7300 with PA2500 Linear Amplifier.

Antennas will be simple verticals at the beach on spiderpoles from http://www.spiderbeam.com

We will upload whole log to clublog and LOTW once we are back on the mainland.

If you need a paper QSL, please use OQRS.

Direct requests may please be sent to VU2CPL with sufficient postage (3GS) and SAE. Please dont send IRCs.

Any request without postage and SAE will be replied via buro.

We will not be using eQSL/QRZ log books.

We believe and support dx code of conduct....

DX Code Of Conduct

    •    I will listen, and listen, and then listen again before calling.

    •    I will only call if I can copy the DX station properly.

    •    I will not trust the DX cluster and will be sure of the DX station's call sign before calling.

    •    I will not interfere with the DX station nor anyone calling and will never tune up on the DX frequency or in the QSX slot.

    •    I will wait for the DX station to end a contact before I call.

    •    I will always send my full call sign.

    •    I will call and then listen for a reasonable interval. I will not call continuously.

    •    I will not transmit when the DX operator calls another call sign, not mine.

    •    I will not transmit when the DX operator queries a call sign not like mine.

    •    I will not transmit when the DX station requests geographic areas other than mine.

    •    When the DX operator calls me, I will not repeat my call sign unless I think he has copied it incorrectly.

    •    I will be thankful if and when I do make a contact.

    •    I will respect my fellow hams and conduct myself so as to earn their respect.

We thank Con DF4SA and team at Spiderbeam for their whole hearted support.
