First licensed as VE1APG in 1983, then VE1JH from 1984-2007. Upon moving to PEI in 2007 I became VY2HF.

In October 2016 I passed the General, Technician and Extra exams in the U.S., and was issued the call AC1BF. Then, in April 2017, I won the FCC lottery for vanity call W1PJ.

I'm active on 6M, LEO FM satellites, HF, contesting. MW DX listening, APRS, and DX-peditioning. I am just starting to get comfortable with digital modes on HF and 50 MHz, and am really enjoying JT-65 and the brand new mode, FT8.

My other interests include general aviation, amateur astronomy, history, genealogy, travel, and current events. I do a little YouTube stuff, mostly about ham radio and flying. I have a share in a 1977 Piper Warrior 161, C-FDME, which is based at the Charlottetown International Airport, CYYG. I am also a writer, with both non-fiction and fiction material in the works.

I earned 6M VUCC #418 in 1990 from my former grid square of FN66 while operating as VE1JH.

Member: ARRL, AMSAT, RAC, National Radio Club, PEI Flying Association.

Note to JT65/JT9/FT8 Ops: If I am calling CQ and you respond to me with "R-##" instead of your gridsquare or a report without the R, double clicking to respond to you would result in my program auto-generating "RRR" instead of a report back to you. I require both a sent and a received report to log our contact.  Remember that "R-##" means "I received your report and here's your report back" (thanks to James Shaver for this well-worded explanation).
