I was first licensed as a novice in September 1982.  My novice call was KAØNPV/KC.  I worked cw til December 1982 and passed my General ticket.  In January of 1983 I applied to change my call and was issued NØEKT.  I continued to use this call til my father Wesley WØLGQ became a SK.  I applied for his call and was granted it in 2004.  My elemers were my dad and NØCSQ/SK. I grew up with ham radio and made trips to WRL in Council Bluffs with dad.  I have a Brother in-law KT4W and a nephew KG7OF.

I started my career with the Bell System in 1973. I worked in plant maintenance for 6 months, then as a lineman installer of  residential equipment.  In 1973 I transferred to Western Electric doing electronic troubleshooting and facility maintenance.  The break up of the Bell System  in 1987 forced a job change.  I became the facilities director in Underwood Community Schools till 1998. In 1998 I joined the staff of Iowa Western Community College as the Director of Facilities till my retirement in 2016.

For HF work I have a 529 foot 160 meter horizontal loop at 30 feet. For receive I use a beverage that is approx 700 foot long favoring the North East.  I have a TH6 at 50 feet for 10,15,20 meters.   For 40 and 80 meters I use dipoles.

My primary interests are VHF and above weak signal.  I currently operate on 6 meters thru 10 GHz (excluding 3456).

For 6 meters I use a TS-570s and a SB-200 amp to a Cushcraft A50-S 6 element at 58 feet.

For 2 meters I use a IC-271A with a SSB pre-amp and a Tempo 2002 (500watts) to a Cushcraft  3219 Boomer at 70 feet.

For 222 I use a IC-735 28mhz IF to a Down East Transverter and a 6154 (400 Watts) to a Cushcraft 220b Boomer at 65 feet.

For 432 I use a Ic-490A to a AM 6154 (220 Watts) to a Cushcraft 424b Boomer at 60 feet.

For 902 I use a IC-735 28mhz IF to a Down East Transverter and a Cellwave amp at 150 watts to a 33 ele. loop yagi.

For 1296 I use a Kenwood TR-9130 IF to a LT-23s transverter and a W6PQL amp at 100 watts to a 55 ele. loop yagi.

For 2304 I use a Kenwood TR-9000 IF to a Down East Transverter and a Spectran amp at 70 watts tower mounted.  Antenna is a 52 element loop yagi.

For 5.7 I use a IC-290H for a IF and a Kuhne transverter with a 9 watt amplifier. Antenna is a 24 inch Winncom 27 dbi tower mounted at 48 feet.

For 10.3 GHz I use a IC-290H for a IF and a Kuhne transverter with a 3.3 watt amp.  Antenna is a MaCom 24 inch tower mounted at 48 feet.
