___ "news is next"---

here is a brief 'news' summary of the events

This beautiful memorial site was originally dedicated in December, 1967 and recently renovated by the city under the direction of Aldeman, Michael Rhoades.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of this memorial and is the first truly Vietnam Veteran memorial in the United States.

The local VFW Post 5327 along with the City of Wentzville commemorated this special occasion on Saturday, November 11th with a Meet and Greet for Veterans at the American Legion Hall in the morning followed by a walk and parade to the memorial site.

The program began with the posting of the Colors by the Wentzville Police Department followed by the singing of the National Anthem by Ms. Elizabeth LaKamp.  VVA Chaplain Bob Blake gave the invocation followed by several guest speakers.

At the conclusion of the ceremony a rifle salute was done by the Wentzville Police Honor Guard and taps presented by American Legion member Mel Heins.

The weather was perfect with sunny skies and a light breeze.  The event was well attended by a large crowd of veterans, many adorned in their respective military branch jackets and caps, as well as residents of Wentzville and guest visitors.  The Wentzville Fire Department provided a ladder truck hoisting a large US flag over the site.

In addition to this special commemorative ceremony, several amateur radio operators led by KØMHP and KEØKZ conducted Special Event Amateur Radio Station, WØW, to bring attention to this special occasion through the use of amateur (ham) radio beginning on Friday, November 10 through Sunday, November 12, in the recently vacated main fire station adjacent to the memorial site.

Many of Missouri's elected officials, including Governor Eric Greitens, Senators Roy Blunt and Claire McCaskill, US Representative Blaine Luektemeyer, Senators Bob Onder and Jeanie Riddle and each of St. Charles County Missouri Representatives were invited to attend and participate in this celebration.

Only Senator McCaskill's office representative, Missouri Senator Onder and Missouri Representatives Spencer and Wiemann attended the ceremony.
