I go by "Chip" on the air (Only the IRS and people who don't know me use "Grant") and have been licensed since 1959. I'm active on CW and SSB, 160M thru 3cm. Hold or have operated under the following DX calls: J3/W1AIM, FP0SM, VE9AIM, CY9SS, and XM9AIM. I am a retired Health Physicist and previously worked in the HR field. Photography, target shooting and astronomy are some other hobbies.

This call isn't a vanity call, but it doest fit some of those other hobbies. You'd have to go back to 1930-31 to find the original W1AIM: He was Herbert H. Stone of New Bedford, MA. By odd coincidence he was a firefighter and so am I. (Although I am a volunteer and he was a paid firefighter-starting at $4.25 a day!-on the New Bedford Fire Department.)

I have VUCC on bands through 10GHz and am a co-holder of the "in-Canada" microwave distance record for 3.4, and 5.7GHz- 424km. (And briefly held the record on 10GHz at this distance.) Best USA DX on 10GHz is 1008km. When not microwaving I'm chasing HF DX on SSB and CW- I finally worked the last one needed for Top of the Honor Roll, VK0KEV on Macquarie- finally approved by the DXCC Desk. So time now to relax and enjoy the hobby.

QSL 100% with SASE, or Green Stamp. Buro cards are OK to receive, but I no longer mail cards via the buro thanks to ARRL huge increase in fees for the outgoing buro. If you want my QSL back pse go direct with a green stamp or return postage. Please send cards for my DX calls via W1AIM. Tnx and see you in the pile-ups!
