W1XT is located in Sun City West, Arizona, about 35 miles NW of downtown Phoenix.

I'm shown in the main QRZ title picture at my operating position in early 1956 as a Novice (WN3HGN, Bethlehem, PA) sending and receiving chess moves with my High School friend WN3HGJ (now W3IKL). The chess player in the photo is another classmate Hank Enberg, now an SK.

Elecraft K2 for QRP operating. I built it in 1999 and it works like a champ today. Amazing Transceiver! Since the cables match the KX3, I often drop in my KX3 in place of the K2. Takes only a minute or so! But the K2 is primary.

Pictured below is some of my Vintage 1956 gear: Hammarlund HQ-150, Heath AT-1, 8W, XTAL Controlled, Johnson kW Matchbox, McElroy Straight Key. It was set up for a Novice Rig Roundup (NRR) operating event last year (2015). Remember bandspread dial markings every 10 kHz?! Also have (not shown here) a Hallicrafters S-40B, Hammarlund RBN Navy Receiver (early version of the HQ-120, dated 1938), my original Novice Hallicrafters S-38D (shown in the main picture above) and a Globe Chief 90 (1956).

On the bands, CW, in 1956. Licensed as WN3HGN and W3HGN in my hometown of Bethlehem, PA, then as W2CUT in NJ followed by W1FBY (1967) in Connecticut. I went the two-letter route in 1975 with W1XT.  I've been active the entire time I've been licensed. Always have been on CW.

Arizona has been my home state for 27 years. Never gave up the W1 callsign from Connecticut!

Please see my QST Cover Photo
on December 1970, QST.

1966-1967 was devoted to working with B&W and the 6100 transmitter, Low Pass Filters and test equipment among many other things. We also manufactured a complete line of Miniductors. In this photo we were using the B&W 6100 test bench to drive a very high powered amplifier in the building basement to test verticals for the Military.

We also had many BC-610s and parts around left over from a different era! I'm shown here at Barker & Williamson in 1965, Bristol, Pennsylvania. Photo by my Dad.

Please QSL by mail: All QSL requests honored.
On the air, by email or post card, all are fine. No postage or envelope necessary.

(I'm not checking or posting to LOtW or eQSL, sorry.)
