I obtained my Technician license in October, 2015 at the age of 37.

My father exposed me to CB as a kid, and I learned a little about UHF and VHF radio while volunteering as a junior at a local fire department on Long Island where I grew up.

The podcast Ham Nation introduced me to the variety of things that can be done with an amateur radio license, and that's what pushed me over the edge to take the test.

AMSAT is an area of the hobby that is particularly interesting to me.  My grandfather (who passed away before I was born) was an engineer who worked for Grumman and helped build the lunar module for the Apollo 11 mission.  The engineer in my DNA has been looking for a hobby like amateur radio without knowing it.  I look forward to learning more about the hands on electronics aspects of the hobby since most of it is new to me.

I currently have an Icom 51A and 5100.
