Greetings and Welcome to my QRZ page!  yeslaugh

Steve was born in Anchorage, Alaska and has been active in Amateur Radio since the age of 13 years old.       I am active in all aspects of the hobby and favor the technical side designing and building radio equipment, antennas, VHF repeaters, and I really enjoy getting to know folks through rag chew QSO's, with some DX'ing and contesting on the side.

Steve attended VA Tech and majored in Electrical Engineering, and at VA Tech he was heavily involved as a student DJ and Chief Engineer for one of the best progressive "free form" non-commercial FM college radio stations in the world, WUVT-FM, 90.7 MHz, Blacksburg, VA.  After VA Tech, Steve attended Johns Hopkins University and obtained graduate degrees in RF and Microwave Engineering and Radar Systems Engineering.  I am currently working as a Principal Systems Engineer in the design and manufacture of high power RF Transmitter systems, Receiver systems, and high power Radar systems.  My other interests include, cycling, hiking, tennis, high end audio systems, home improvement, and gardening.

My current station consists of; FlexRadio Flex6700 SDR transceiver, Icom IC-7300 transceiver, Elecraft KPA-500/KAT-500 amp and tuner, Ameritron AL-1500/Palstar HF-Auto high power amp and tuner.  My antennas; Hex Beam at 30 ft. above ground, homebrew multi-band dipole at 45 ft., and an Inverted-L antenna for 160 m and 80 m bands.

At times I may be operating my remote HF station in Alaska so you may hear me as W4YHD/KL7 remotely operated from wherever life finds me.  I have also operated from Aruba as P40SF.

Steve also built and operates two "high fidelity" VHF FM repeaters in the Northern Virginia area on 224.10 MHz and 224.88 MHz.  They are both open and all operators are encouraged to use them.

Feel free to give me a call on the bands, and I always enjoy receiving good 'ole paper QSL cards!

73' Steve
