Radio wasn't my only passion.  When I wasn't working "on-the-air", I was "on-the-road", sometimes doing both at the same time! (job security ya know) - I worked many years without a "day off". But then,... It's not really like working when you truly "love" what you're doing. smiley

Between 1977-2009, I ran "over-the-road" (casual and/or full-time) with these companies:

Midwestern Distribution Trucking Lines,(Ft. Scott, Kansas) - Clay Hyder Trucking Lines,(Auburndale, Fla.) - Refrigerated Transport,(Atlanta, Ga.) - Ryder Dedicated Logistics, (Miami, Fla.) and Consolidated Freightways,(Vancouver, Wash.) as a line-haul/long-haul over-the-road driver/trainer (loaded/unloaded in all lower 48 states & Canada). Trailways / Greyhound as a charter bus driver, USPS Motor-Vehicle-Operator/TTO. I am a 'tenured' "ROAD(sic) SCHOLAR"wink (over a million miler). Also worked as a "AB deckhand" for State Boat Corp. (180 ft. supply boat M/V STATE VENTURE) servicing oil-rigs in the Gulf-of-Mexico the summer of 1979 for a little "vacation".

I was 'privileged' to fly 72 North Vietnam air-combat support missions out of Danang AFB  (10-14 hour "round-robin" flights) up in the Northern Gulf-of-Tonkin, orbiting just off from Haiphong, North Vietnam  (1966). "Offshore" Vietnam (South China Sea); U.S.S. Oriskany (CVA-34),  U.S.S. Hancock (CVA-19) (1965-66). VQ-2 Rota, Spain & various other 'TAD' (Temporary Additional Duty) assignments around the world (1967-69). I was fortunate to have served or been in 42 different countries (5 continents) between ages 17 & 23. (Join the Navy & See the World !!)yes

The photo of the EC-121 (PR-21) is the actual aircraft the North Koreans shot down (April 15, 1969) with the loss of 31 fellow crewmembers & it's one I flew in when it rotated to South Vietnam for duty.

When QRP I use a Heathkit HW-9(WARC),  ELECRAFT K1-4 (thanks to WN6U David),..  all with OCF dipoles & Drake MN-7,  MN-2000,  MN-2700 tuners. A Vibroplex Presentation (1967), Chinese military straight key (K-4), J-44, & a NYE VIKING MASTER KEY round out the station.  CW 100%  (NO computers, readers or keyers)cheeky

Home is just 5 miles West of Mobile Bay ("DAMN THE TORPEDOS,... FULL SPEED AHEAD") & 7 miles North of the Gulf-of-Mexico. (18 highway miles from Dauphin Island)

I listen,... much more than I send, 80 thru 10 meters (General class segments) + WARC bands. If we've chatted in the last 5 years, I've only been running 15 watts output or less.

Here I am having fun in my R/V at IOTA NA-213 (Dauphin Island, Ala.) ~ I sometimes use a ICOM-735 (for QRO), Ten-Tec Century-22,  ELECRAFT K1-4 or,  the HW-9(WARC) when in the motor-home..
