*** QRP 5-10 Watts SSB and a Wire ***

My shack consists of an Elecraft KX3 mated with a PX3 Panadapter.

The KX3 is currently connected to LNR Precision EF-QUAD EndFedZ 40/20/15/10 antenna deployed horizontally about 10 feet or so off the ground.

For portable operation I also have a KX2.

Which I easily operate within my truck by utilizing a hitch flagpole holder, 28-foot Jackite pole, and either an LNR Precision EFT-10/20/40 Tail-Friendly antenna or a W1SFR end-fed 40m-6m random wire antenna.

Why 5-10 watts? I normally transmit with 5 watts in the field when using the internal battery. When operating from my shack I can crank it up to 10 watts when using a power supply.

Plus 10 watts is plenty. It's only down less than 2 S-units (10db) from 100 watts or a little more than 3 S-units (20db) from 1000 watts.

Here is a good QRP quote:

Because the mere presence of a signal is more important than its magnitude.

I'm a member of the YL-International Single Sideband System (YLISSB Member #17290) and I encourage everyone to check them out at www.ylsystem.org (just click on the flame to enter the site). They operate on 14.332 MHz all day long every day of the year. Plus they have nets on 80m, 40m, and 15m from time-to-time.

I have a dual-band 2m/70cm antenna mounted on my truck so I can run QRP FM from my Kenwood TH-D72A HT. I can hit most of the repeaters here in San Antonio plus it allows me to run APRS. For portable use I have the new Kenwood TH-D74A HT which does just about anything one may need.

My wife Jill has her license...her call sign is W5TXJ...my son Stephen's call sign is K5PPK...and my daughter Jacque's call sign is KG5UBU.

72 (it's a QRP thing...)
