"ROUTE 66 ON THE AIR SPECIAL EVENT"

2017 Route 66 On The Air!

SEPTEMBER 9 – 17, 2017

Dates for the 2018 Route 66 On The Air are

September 8 -16..... so mark your calendar

Again this year, we'll have clubs from across the country participating in this annual event. Several years ago a handful of clubs got together to "Relive the Ride" of the most famous US highway of all times. Original idea of The Northern Arizona DX Association. the event has become one of the most sought after special event each year where thousands of contacts are made each year from all over the world. This years event will take place from 0001 Z on September 9 to 2359 Z on September 17.

This year we’ll have 21 callsigns, (W6A-W6U) along which includes two rover stations who will be on the air over the 8 day event.  Most radio operators try to work all the participating stations on all modes, but with all these stations on the air, please be patient as this does create a little QRM. Each year for their efforts we offer a certificate along with three different color decals and each official participating station will offer their own QSL cards.

********** A Word of Thanks **********

With the Route 66 On The Air event for 2017 concluding, I would like to THANK all that participated, especially to the clubs W6A-W6U that put time and effort to make it all work.

With that said, there has been an issue of band / noise conditions that has affected our event this year. It has been reported that some stations have not been heard or worked, I have been in contact with our participating clubs and all have told the same story regarding the not so good conditions. I was also told of solar flares that contributed to this condition, then add in the hurricanes and all its trouble and that adds up to major issues.

I have been working with most of these clubs since the event started 18 years ago and I can say without a doubt they give it their best each year. Each club has to gather members or outsiders to assist them to operate for as much time they can. Each do the best they can with what they have to work with.

In closing, I appreciate all the comments that have been sent to me along with the understanding and patience it takes to work all the stations.

Hope to hear you on the air next year…… September 8-16, 2018

Thanks again for participating…..

Jeff Richardson, W6JJR
