I am originally from Alberta Canada where I grew up for the first 26 years.  I was priviledged to work multi-op at VE6JY from 1995 to 1996 where we came in first place in the RAC and Canada day contests.  In 1997 I moved to Santa Rosa California to work for the RF and Microwave section of HP (now Keysight) and have been there since that time.  I have been working in R&D in various positions focused on Vector Network Analysis, Sources, and Spectrum Analysis.

From 1998 to 2017 I was not active in amatuer radio mainly due to work and antenna location restrictions.  I run QRP during contests and enjoy the occasional ragchew.

My current station consists of:

  • Yaesu FT-891
  • ANAN 7000DLE SDR
  • Multiband dipole at 16 feet
  • S9 vertical
  • Remote antenna tuner

The main picture above is the 34' S9 vertical on the North shore of Oahu.

Sonoma county was devastated by the fires in the fall of 2017.  A firestorm roared through Santa Rosa with winds at 60 mph.  Around 5,000 homes were destoyed.  A large percentage of my coworkers lost everything.  Below are some images of the Keysight worksite in Santa Rosa.  The burned structures pictured are the three modular buildings.  The other main four buildings sustained minor outside damage but incured smoke damage inside the buildings.  The second picture is one of the pillars outside the main lobby in building 1 upper.  The last pictures show the devastation to the housing community near Keysight.
