Continuously licensed since  July 1954 as WN1BVP while in high school in Braintree,MA then W1BVP until 1974 when I decided to become a legal resident of Washington state.I was stationed there with the USCG from 1970 to 1973,operated as W1BVP/7 for 3 years. In 1973 was transferred to the Jacksonville,FL area for 2.5 years. Then in 1975 transferred to Detriot,MI operated as W7KQU/8 from Mount Clemens,MI.Was very active on QMN,8RN,and EAN CW nets.In 1978 was transferred back to Seattle for my last tour and retired from active duty in February 1981.I spent  a little less than two years working as licensed Mate running between Seattle and the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands on small freighters and fish processing ships.

In late 1982 moved up to Master spending the next 18 years as Master of ships from 165 ft  to 380 ft involved in the same Seattle-Bering Sea-Aleutian Island operations.I operated W7KQU/MM from a number of ships during this period.

In early 2001,I got a call from a Maritime "headhunter" I knew, asking if I would be interested  in a Mate's position on a US Flag Factory Trawler fishing out of Punta Arenas,Chile. Two days later,I was on a flight to Montevideo,Uruguay to join the ship.

December 2001 decided to drop anchor permanently at home.At age 62+,I had spent too much time away from family and home.

I can be found on 30,17,and 12 meters CW and during F2 and Sporadic E seasons,I also work 6 meter CW.
