Rick (W7RAP) has been a Radio Amateur since 1975 and holds an Amateur EXTRA class license.
He was elected as ARRL Section Manager for Arizona in March, 2017 and takes office on April 1st.
He retired as Design Manager at Hughes/(Raytheon) in 2007. He is past President of the General Dynamics Ham Club and Catalina Radio Club
He has served as ARRL Assistant Section Manager since 2004, and as a ARRL VE team lead since 1998. He helps coordinate activities and resources among VE teams throughout Arizona.
A former ARCA representative, Rick is certified as a VE with the ARRL, W5YI, and Laurel VECs. He has been making ARRL presentations at major hamfests throughout Arizona since 2004.
For over Ten Years he has led VE teams conducting test sessions at AZ State conventions and Hamfests.
He is a ARRL registered License Instructor as well as one of Gordon West' s (WB6NOA) certified Instructor/Elmers: He participates with Gordo in making presentations at Arizona Hamfests.
Rick has been mentoring young Hams in Southern Arizona for years.
He is currently a member of several Amateur organizations: Cactus, Kachina, SARBA, CARBA, ORBA, and the Greens Peak ARA.
Has been an AMSAT member, ARES qualified in 1990. RACES certified in 1993.
He maintains a UHF Remote Base, linked repeater at his home in Oro Valley.
He also built and maintains an APRS Digipeater on Greens Peak.
He participates daily in HF Nets , UHF Nets and D-Star.
Rick's goal is to help assure that new Hams are welcomed into our activities.
He wants to boost the number of Arizona Amateurs and get more of them involved in ARRL activities throughout the state.
He will work to develop a network of "Amateur Ambassadors" in Arizona assigned to "Link-Up" new Hams to local and statewide clubs, organizations, activities, and adventures.
