OMISS #9973

Update December 2016

I have recently applied and have been appointed as WV ARES District 1 DEC.  I hope to be able to work well with the EC's in my district and to improve ARES presence there as well.

Update May 2016.

We have been approved for our mini dxpedition to ice mountain.  I am trying to secure W8I as our callsign for the event.  We will be operating from Ice Mountain July 9.  We will only be operating for about 8 hours and most likely on low power.  So please bear with us.  We will QSL through mail with SASE only, please.

April 2016

A little update here on some current plans in the works.  I am currently working with getting permission from the nature conservancy in WV to do a mini DXpedition to Ice Mountain in Hampshire county.  Ice mountain has never been operated from that I can find.  Unfortunatly it does not qualify for SOTA and it is not a National Park.  The neat thing is that there are cold air vents around the base of the mountain that you can find ice formations up in to July sometimes.  It is a natural phenomenom.  We are planning on being on the peak of the mountain.  I have a team of two other hams who are willing to go.  So if I get the permission we will have 3 stations operating, hopefully.   Here are some links for Ice mountain http://www.historichampshire.org/scenic/icemt.htm   http://www.nature.org/ourinitiatives/regions/northamerica/unitedstates/westvirginia/placesweprotect/ice-mountain-preserve.xml

Hopefully this will work out as it will be a unique oppurtunity.  the team consists of myslef, KD8SKZ, KE8DCM.  This will be a fun and exciting trip.  Also on Ice mountain there are several plants that only are seen in arctic regions and are found along the ice vents.

Hello, I have been a ham since August 2013. I am a member of the Newell VFD, an EMT for New Cumberland Ambulance, and a nurse at the Orchards at Foxcrest.  I am married and have two daughters.  My oldest daughter is really interested in getting her ticket and has been studying hard.  My kids both enjoy kids day.  I upgraded to general in May 2014.  I achieved my WAS in february of 2015.  I also enjoy riding the motorcycle, 1997 Honda Shadow ACE 1100.  Camping with the family in the RV is also a good time and I usually take a portable HF rig with me.  RV is a 1977 Rockwood Dodge.

Update Feb 2016, I have recently upgraded to extra.  Really enjoying the extra priveleges but still tend to stay up in the general portion quite a bit.

My equipment includes 3 Baofeng UV5R handhelds, a Baofeng UV82HP, Anytone AT-5888UV for 2 metter and 440 use with 5/8 wave dual band antenna.  Magmount antenna for the mobile rig.  Icom  2 meter rig mobile.  Kenwood TS450s witha LDG KT-100 tuner.  Antennas are 40 meter homebrew OCF, and a thunderbird tribander beam.  I also have added an Alinco dxsr8t to the truck for mobile HF using ham stick antennas for 10,17,20,40 meters.  I am really active on phone but do enjoy digital modes as well.  PSK31 is my favorite digital mode.  Interface is a Easydigi with FLdigi software.   I use N3fjp software for logging.  Recently started using CW so if you hear me on CW please be patient.

I have recently started a Ham Shack at the Newell VFD.  It is a modest station.  Equipment there is a baofeng handheld for 2m/440 use.  Also a kenwood tr7950 2m rig.   2m/440 jpole.  I bring my kenwood rig from home when operating there until i get a new rig for the home QTH.  Antenna there is a 40 meter OCF.  Listen for me, if I am operating from the FD I have special QSL cards for there.  I am trying to get some of the firefighters interested into amateur radio to help with the station there.  I am hoping to operate field day from the fire department this year if I can get some others there to help.   Also, we have a johnson CB radio in this shack for nonlicensed communications.   We also have digital capabilities at the fire department.  I am also working on setting up a UHF repeater there.  73.
