Ham Member Lookups: 25413

First licensed in 1982 as KA8PTL then as KF8EP and now as W8LR. I hold DXCC Honor Roll and have been a (SWL)DXer long before becoming a Ham. I have, since my childhood, been amazed at listening to signals from remote places. I am an avid DXer and also a VHF/UHF contester. I Have been fortunate to have done well and won in divisional CQWW single op efforts and have been a member of many winning national and divisional VHF/UHF contest teams. Presently I hold a Ph.D. in psychology, and an M.Div., and function as a counselor in my local community.

My HF DX wish is to mount a DXpedition to one of the remote Pacific Island

My VHF/UHF at the present time is portable and concentrated of working some of the satellites on FM and APRS. I was very active on 437.55 when ISS was on UHF and was only using only a 5w Knwd TH-D72A and an Arrow II Hand Held Yagi. During the time the ISS was on UHF, Dave Thomson VA7THO, who also used a TH-D72A and an Arrow antenna, teamed up with me and we were able to set a new ISS UHF Digipeater distance record. It was not an easy task and I publically want to thank Dave for his efforts in making this event happen this past March.

On July 10, 2017 Erik Anderson KK6RKY and I set a new VHF APRS digipeated distance record. We worked and planned for about one month before we tried to make the contact. We only had about one minute to make the contact and fortunately we were able to do so. AMSAT reviewed and confirmed the contact and new record. I want to thank Erik for all of his efforts in this record setting effort, which was truly no small effort on his part!!

So if you see me spotted on the ARISS station heard list or a real time packet reporting system it is me in real time and not a beacon. If you do hear me please send me a signal or postion report or message!
