My name is Tony Tolbert. I have been interested in communications since a very young age expermenting with my uncle's CB radios and 49 MHz walkie talkies. I decided to get my ham ticket as a teenager and have held a valid licence since 1996. I still enjoy talking on 11 meters SSB. My rig at home is a Kenwood TS-2000X with all the matching accessories and a Chamelleon EMCOMM II antenna.
Currently, I am very active in the DMR movement. In 2011, I registered the very first DMR repeater in Indiana and in 2014, I created Hoosier DMR (www.hoosierdmr.net). Hoosier DMR was created more as an informational source, for individuals interested in DMR in Indiana to have full access to repeater and talkgroup information. With the help of a few very good (and loyal and honest) friends, it has erupted into an absolute global phenomenon and has become the number one DMR network in Indiana. Hoosier DMR provides quality DMR coverage to over 30,000 square miles of Indiana and is the largest wide-area network in the state. I currently am the trustee of 4 DMR repeaters on the Hoosier DMR network, Indianapolis, Terre Haute, Bloomington, and Muncie, with more to come I'm sure.
Outside of DMR, I am a technical specialist for the Indiana ARRL section, so I spend a few hours a month talking about popular ham radio topics at clubs and hamfests. I am currently working towards my Extra class ticket.
I also have a GMRs licence, WQPV948, and have a GMRS repeater in the downtown Indy area on 462.6000.
