I took an interest in ham radio as a teenager listening to foreign broadcasts on my Zenith Trans-Oceanic shortwave/love for DX;ing began then----and became WV2QNT (novice) in 1961.  Life experiences ( esp.U.S. Navy- sea duty 3 yrs/Vietnam/So. Pacific & NATO/No. Europe, and my last year in D.C.)---my license expired.  Renewed an interest in early 1980's (WA2UUS)...but for various reasons did not get actively involved until just before I retired (in 2015)....Then, encouraged by other hams in WNY/Ontario, started to become active again...in HF, IRLP, D-Star and just experimenting with DMR....The technological changesin the hobby over the years, for many of us returning to ham radio is astonishing---I often feel like Rip VanWinkle waking up to a new reality decades later.

I reside in Buffalo, New York, Western New York (nr. the Canadian Border, Niagara Falls, Lake Erie)...I have  lived here since 1972, and met my late wife (a WNY Native) here ...and we raised our two daughters here.  Since retirement I have also served as a Docent at the Buffalo History Museum...for history fascinates me, as well; often I find in QSO's with others that many other hams share their own interests and tales.  I really love listening and learning via ham radio.  I presently belong to ARATS, and BARRA radio clubs in WNY....and fellow members have been so very encouraging to me; I am also an ARRL Member. Additionally, I really enjoy the IRLP Tech Net/East Coast Reflector run by WB2JPQ/Dick held on Tuesday Nights, and the D-Star International Net on Sunday Nights on REF 001C (run by Connie/ KB0ZSG).

My ham equipment presently:  HF: Yaesu FTdx-1200 (w/15M dipole in attic & MFJ-1622 window Mount used for 20M & 40 M..),  VHF/UHF - Icom ID-880H (w/power supply & Diamond x50A vertical in attic) & for mobile: Yaesu FT-8800 R/H (w/Magnetic Mount Antenna) & HT: Alinco DJ-500; and for D-Star via DVAP or DV4mini (since cannot reach D-StarRepeaters) -just started using a SHARK RF-and PC: Icom ID-51A Plus.

Thank you for visiting my QRZ page, and hope to have continued QSO's with you.
