Op: Steve

QTH: Spartansburg, PA.     Crawford County, Grid Fn01et, ARRL Sec WPA, CQ Zone 5.

I was licensed in 1972 as WN3TBW. I was passionate about ham radio and enjoyed dxing on the 15 and 10m novice bands. I upgraded to WA3TBW and became interested in domestic contesting. I attended Penn State in Erie, PA and received an associates degree in electrical engineering technology. After college I moved to the Pacific Northwest to climb mountains and find a job. (in that order!) I eventually moved back to northwestern Pennsylvania to raise a family. I built a home on a 90 acre woodlot near Spartansburg, PA. I upgraded to extra class and received WA3A by chance! I am now self-employed in the telecom service business.

I have recently become active in contesting (dx and domestic) and have erected some big wire antennas using the trees on my property as supports. I'm running two rhombic antennas and a vee beam (all unterminated and are bi-directional). The rhombics are 180' per leg and about 70' high. One is at 45/225 degrees the other is 270/90. The vee beam is 396' per leg and also about 70' high and is oriented at 330/150 degrees. The antennas are fed with over 1200' of homebrew open wire feedline. Each antenna has its own balanced tuner so I can switch instantly between them on any band.

Rig: Elecraft K3, QRO HF2k amplifier, Palstar BT1500A tuners
