January 2017

I'm active on 2m and 440 FM and D-Star, K3PDR in Philadelphia. Less active on HF, sideband only. I have my father's station (WA3KSK, SK) -- a TS-570 (w/o 6m) and his Drake MN-2700 tuner.  I now have a 40m Alfa-Delta dipole in the trees out front.  Until last year I owned a Yaesu FT-736 with the lower four - 6m, 2m 220, and 432 radio.  That radio operated the 2013 January VHF contest at the Ben Wilson Senior Center on 220 and 432 with the Pack Rat call - W3CCX.  I operated the 2014 VHF contest at the Ivyland Fire Department with the county ARES call - KB3BUX.  In January 2015 I setup my temporary "demo mast" (24ft) and a Comet Cx-333 on 2m, 220 and 432 -- and a corner fed Bobtail on 6m.  I sold the 736 in August 2015.

Since 2011 I've been secretary for PDRA, The Philadelphia Digital Radio Association but recently gave up the position. They operate a D-Star repeater here in Philly on the C and B deck --  146.61 and 445.18125 -- that's 6.25 Khz over the standard 445.175 repeater channel. Antennas are located on the old TV channel 3 tower in Wyndmoor, Springfield Twp, Montgomery County. This is what I call the Farnsworth Tower because it's the original location of Philo T. Farnsworth's first television station/ 100ft tower in Philadelphia.  http://www.k3pdr.org/

Last year (2015) PDRA purchased a Yaesu Fusion repeater (447.475) and a DMR repeater (445.73125).  Both are now on the same tower as our D-Star repeaters in Wyndmoor (near Glenside Pa).  PDRA is one of the few repeaters in the area to have Wires X running at the repeater site (we have internet service for both D-Star and Fusion).  I'm also member of the Warminster ARC where I served as Hamfest Chairman (2010, '11, '12); http://www.k3dn.org  And a member of Penn Wireless Association where I served as Field Day chairman (2013, '14, '15, '16); http://pennwireless.org.  PWA has installed a Fusion repeater at their Southampton repeater site (448.225) and we now have Wires X running at Ben's House (K3JQH) in Roslyn, Pa.

As always, we need to get more antlers in the air.  Photo shows Adam (K3JCP) and I working the radio at PWA FD 2014 -- I'm wearing the sunglasses.
