I was first licensed in 1965 as WA7EES. After graduating from high school in 1968, I joined the U.S. Navy Reserve as a radioman. During my active duty service, from June 1969 through June 1971, I was stationed at Naval Communications Station Yokosuka, Japan (call sign NDT) where I served as watch section leader at the NDT receiver site, Kamiseya, Japan. We provided ship-shore communication services using Morse code for the U.S. Merchant Marine fleet carrying cargo in support of the Viet Nam war. During the latter part of this tour I was assigned to U.S. Navy Mars station in Yokosuka. I was active in amateur radio RTTY, C.W. and voice National Traffic System nets for many years during the 60'S and 70's. I was inactive for much of the '80's, but I still remained in regular contact with many friends via C.W. In the early '90's I was able to spend more time on the air and became involved with Packet radio. I operated a full service V.H.F./U.H.F. Packet B.B.S. and a scanning H.F. Pactor MBO. I passed my Extra Class License exam in 1992. I am the founder of the Northwest Oregon Traffic and Training Net, a local area V.H.F. NTS net for the Portland area that provides for the instruction of new traffic handlers in the art. (We celebrated the 20th anniversary of this net on March 10, 2012.) I am a past Net Manager for the Oregon Section (C.W.) Net. I have also served as the A.R.R.L. Oregon Section Traffic Manager. I have no further affiliation with the A.R.R.L. I am a life member of the Society of Wireless Pioneers and the A-1 Operators Club, a veteran of The American Radio Relay League (A.R.R.L.), Transcontinental Corps., Salvation Army Team Emergency Radio Network (S.A.T.E.R.N.) and I am a past member of the Navy MARS program. I have volunteered many hours of technical service to the maintenance of high-speed packet links in Northwest Oregon. I participated in teaching packet radio classes at Mt. Hood Community College during the fall semesters in 1996 and 1997 and I served as special assistant to the Oregon Section Traffic Manager (W7VSE) for Packet Radio under KZ7T, the Section Communications Manager for Oregon. I also served on the board of directors of the Oregon Packet Experimenters Network (O.P.E.N.). I hold a F.C.C. General Class Commercial Radio Telephone License. My professional life has been in the electrical engineering field, employed by several local companies; Rodgers Organ Co., Sunn Music, Plantronics-Kentrox and Tektronics Corp. Currently I provide cartography services in the Land Surveying field as I settle into retirement. Other than Ham Radio my hobbies include; marksmanship, ballistics, hunting, fishing, hiking, bicycling and birding. I hope to run into you on C.W. sometime, or look for me in the 14.105Mhz packet cluster. C.W. Forever! - 73
