I was born in Germany and lived in Wuppertal until I was 26. I have been using my middle name "ERICH" since marrying an American and moving to the USA in 1970. If you know how to pronounce my legal first name feel free to use it.
My first SWL Radio was a Heathkit GR-54 that I built in 1972.
After playing with CB Radio for a couple of years, I took a Novice Ham Class in late 1976 and received my license in Jan 1977 and my Technician Plus one month later. When the CW was eliminated from the Ham Licensing I was grandfathered to the General Class.
At the same time while I was taking the Novice Class I built a Heathkit SB-104 and several inverted V's which were all finished by the time I received my Novice License. Since I was one of the few to have a Ham Station up and running, several classmates came to my house and we all made our first CW contacts from my station.
Some day I will fill in details for the last 40 years, including my current equipment.
My Titanium Color 2004 GL1800 Honda Goldwing
And my 2009 gray Yamaha XV19SY Roadliner 1900cc
It was very nice to meet Andy (on left) W6EAT-DL6EAT from Ellerhoop north of Hamburg, Germany at the 2015 Dayton Hamvention.
