I worked as a programmer and systems consultant from 1969 through 2006. The last 32 years of my career I was employed by Allstate Insurance where I programmed for IBM mainframes, midrange systems and PCs.

I was licensed as a novice in 1977 and worked up to the advanced grade. I lost interest in amatuer radio about the time the Apple II came out. Eventually I donated my Kenwood TS820 and all my gear to a boy scout troop.

In 2014, after seven years of retirement and non programing days I discovered the Arduino world. In the beginning of 2015, after reading Arduino projects for amatuer radio I decided to return to the hobby. Being too old to climb roofs I installed a four band MFJ vertical in my yard and acquired a Ten Tec Patriot which is an open source radio. I have this radio connected to a Ten Tec sound card which is then connected to a Raspberry PI 2 for PSK31 operation.

I now spend my time re-learning Morse Code and making program changes to the Patriot.

On July 10, 2015 I received an ANAN-10e. This has become my primary rig. Operating PSK31 I have made many contacts all over the USA and Europe usiing 10 watts or less.

Update Nov. 2015. I added a new photo of my shack. It's an iMac 27" with 32 Gb ram, 1Tb SSD, iCore 7 running at Turbo 4. I'm using Parallels 11 to run Windows 10. Inside the Windows 10 virtual machine is PowerSDR for the Anan-10e and FLDIGI. All that on a 5K display.

I upload my log to QRZ.COm eQsl.net and LOTW.

Update June 2017. With the bands being so bad for QRP I decided to get involved in digital voice. My radio club activated a fusion repeater at the end of 2016 so I aquired a Yeasu FTM-100DR mobile rig and a DV4MINI. I found that the DV4MINI was often not getting the signal across the from the reflectors to the WIRES-X rooms so I acquired an sharkRF openSpot which is more succesful. In March I acquired a Kenwood D74 and learned about D-Star. At Hamvention this year I purchased a Yeasu FT1XDR HT to work the nets from anywhere in the house. I am usually on the Monday evening MINN-WIS net at 7:30 Central time (except when DWTS is on). I vary the D-Star nets. I do like both modes as they are crystal clear. Drop me an email if you'd like to have QSO on either of these modes.

In June I built an APRS iGate using the TNC-PI and a Raspberry Pi 3 and my BTECH UV2501+220. I worked with Tony N9SIR to complete the project. Take a look at his web site N9SIR.COM.

August 2017 and I have added a TYT MD-380G DMR radio to my stable. I'm using it with my openSpot.
