I have enjoyed operating most modes using modern digital and vintage equipment. I tend toward the older stuff with tubes. Collins, Drake, Hallicrafters and Heathkit are in my collection of old rigs. My favorite mode is AM using vintage broadcast equipment.
I became a radio amateur later in life after spending my career since about 1970 in the broadcast industry. I am currently a television systems design engineer. Being in radio and TV explains my interest in the vintage broadcast gear I use on the air. It brings back great memories from the 60's and 70's.
Wednesday evenings are special on the West Coast for AM. Each Wednesday about 7:30PM we gather for the AMI (Amplitude Modulation International) net on 3870 kHz. We have an internet video website for that net where you can watch some of us in our radio stations and listen to the transmissions. You are invited to join us on the air or join us on-line:
You can also learn more about our AM group at:
73 and see you on the vintage nets.
