Ham Member Lookups: 3309

Greetings from the Great State of Texas, and thank you for taking the time to visit my QRZ page!

In April of 2011, I joined the ranks of Ham Radio operators after almost 20 years of prodding by my brother, Steve, N9MCT.  My brother wanted me to consider the hobby so that we could communicate on HF.

Since I've been on the air, I get asked frequently about my vanity callsign.  "Are you a weather station?", many ask.
No, I'm not a weather station ... I'm just a guy who has a facination with (amateur) meteorology and photography - hence "Weather Pix."

To support my love of the hobby, I am a senior buyer for a national supply company. My hobbies include storm spotting & chasing, nature photography and of course, Amateur Radio.

Originally from Anniston, Alabama, I've lived in Atlanta, Denver, Cheyenne and now Bryan-College Station, Tx.

Much of my radio time is spent mobile, so please look for me on APRS (WX0PIX) with no suffix.

My primary mobile station is pretty basic - an Icom 706 MIIg with Ham Sticks and a dual band 2m/70cm 1/4 wave.

Off The Grid

My time living in Denver was simply amazing when it came to amateur radio.   My Elmer, W0MKE, introduced me to solar power back in 2012 by giving me a panel and a controller.  I picked up six 7.5ah batteries during various hamfests which I put to work.  I have the batteries and solar equipment in a "go-bag" so that I can operate almost anywhere.

Mike (W0MKE) and I loved to meet up at Cherry Creek State Park to enjoy "radio in the park" on occasion.  During one of our first outings back in March of 2012, we had incredible success with a G5RV-Jr strung in a tree as an inverted "V."  We made many wonderful contacts, notably Argentina and Brazil.
