Got interested in Ham and Shortwave as a kid in 60's. Studied test and cw but was not able to make it to
FCC office to take test, so never got licensed.

I built a simple 4 tube SW rig as a kid with my uncles help.
I listened to a lot of shortwave in the 60's.
Had longwires running all over the area around my house and neighbors houses.

My 1st elmer was WA0SSH Henry Nichols ( silent key )
He inspired me back to amateur radio.
I met Henry while helping him with setting up his computers to run the digital modes in the late 80's.
After playing at his shack for years while he was there to monitor proper use,
I decided to get licensed In early 1994 I took my Technician test and passed it, then later passed 5 wpm code test.

My 2nd elmer was W4KGU Dave Perry. ( silent key )
He was always telling me I should go for the upgrades in license.
Dave was an extremely good "C Programmer"
He was always pushing me to do more.
Dave was a wiz at fast CW.
I have been trying to get better at CW speed because of his inspiration.
I decided to upgrade to General then Extra last fall (2012) and have been enjoying HF since.

I work alot of PSK31 on 14.070 MHz and 7.035 MHz

I listen around bands and check into nets when I can.

I like building gadgets and antennas. I have been an electronics tech most of my life.
I started building custom TNC cables, Radio controller interfaces
and some antennas to sell for extra money in April 2013.

There is a link to some amateur links and info about a Double J-Pole or Mirrored J-Pole as some call it.
Whatever the name it is a really nice 2 meter/440 MHz antenna that has great gain and is an all around good antenna.

Equipment

Henry gave me the equipment that makes up most of my shack.
He was a Ten-Tec man.

Radio 1: Ten-Tec Delta II
Radio 2:Ten-Tec Corsair
Ten-Tec model 960 power supply
Ten-Tec model 961 power supply
Ten-Tec Tuner

JTV-680 vertical antenna 20 ft in the air.

I use a new Signalink USB interface, and like it very much.
I try to use a Macbook Pro most of the time.
But a lot of good software runs on my Windows XP machine.

Recently bought and built a PSK interface pc board/kit on ebay from KF5INZ
It  works real good. I also do most of Ham stuff on Windows XP now. Some of the best software is still there.
FLdigi and FLrig are AWESOME programs for digital modes

Installed APRS INSTALL CD from K0HAM group here in KC area and it is EXCELLENT.
It installs UIView32 and Precision Mapping together.
I have weather maps live using overlays.
www.k0ham.com  Really good bunch of Hams.

Also started playing with JT65.
Mac & Linux versions work great with SignaLink
