We are a contest group, not simply a radio club. Contesting is what binds us together and gets us going. It’s what makes us tick. The group was initially formed and lead by Lee, ZL2AL (SK in 2015).  ZM4T is located in Hawkes Bay, 30 minutes South of the cities of Napier & Hastings, New Zealand on the East Coast of the North Island. The location changed in 2015 from 20 km North of Napier where we were guests at a local farm site to the Kiwi-DX-Lodge (ZL3IO). We are now about 3-4 km inland and about 320 m above sea level on a high ridge looking out East across the Pacific Ocean towards North/South America. We participate in many contests as Multi OP team but also in Single Operator classes. We are regulars in world wide contests like WW DX,  WPX, ARRL DX, Oceania DX and many others using both SSB and CW.

Our local members are ZL2LF, ZL2ST, ZL2CC, ZL2RVW, ZL2MY, ZL2IFB, ZL3IO, ZL2WG, ZL2GQ, ZL4YL and the occasional guest operators that we always Welcome. Since we moved to the Kiwi-DX-Lodge we can accomodate guest operators incl. families. We have been in operation since 2006.

Some of the ZL-records established from the ZM4T station are:

WW DX SSB: M/2 HP & M/M HP, SOAB HP
WW DX CW: M/2 HP, M/M HP, M/S LP
WPX SSB: SOAB HP & LP, SOAB (A) HP, SO 15m LP, SO 20m LP, SO 15m (A) HP, SO 40m (A) HP

ARRL DX SSB: SOAB HP, LP & QRP, SO 10m HP, SO 15m HP,
ARRL DX CW: M/2 HP, SOAB HP & LP, SOAB (A) HP & LP

Station: K3's + KPA500's
Antennas: 1-3 directional antennas per band from 80-10m, typically pointing into different directions and combined via stack matches
160m: vertical, dipole

80 m: 4 square
40 m: 2L, 2L
20 m: 2L, 3L, 3L

In June 2017 Xenia installed a CW skimmer based on a Red Pitaya (RP) on the site. It is operating under her call ZL4YL. The Red Pitaya can scan 6 bands at a time. To cover all bands at any time with a single RP Birgit- ZL2YL wrote a piece of software enabling time shifted scanning.
