Links to the University of Karlsruhe

There University of Karlsruhe (now Karlsruhe Institute of Technology or KIT, my place of work) has links to two famous scientists involved in the discoveries which make our hobby possible.

1.) Heinrich Hertz, discovered the existence of electromagnetic waves in Karlsruhe, where he was a professor from 1885- 1889.

2.) Karl Ferdinand Braun was Professor at theUniversity of Karlsruhe between 1883 and 1887. He invented the cathode ray tube (Braun'sche Röhre) and received, together with Marconi, the Nobel price in 1909 for his contributions to wireless telegraphy. He was also the first man who understood and used "phased arrays", as he described amongst other things in his Nobel-lecture in 1909.
