NEW!!! From Sep 24, 2013 New call is EA5ZL. As many of you suggested, I applied for a nicer call for CW. 73.

I usually work V/UHF from remote site (IM99UU) Through 22km 5Ghz link (150/150mbps bandwidth with ubiquity radios), when no ham is connected to the VHF port of the EA5B-5 cluster.

The QTH is 15km from the Mediterranean sea and 948m ASL.

Setup for VHF is a Big-Whee antennal. Rig is a ft857d. I am sure will change briefly as we are planning to build a short yagi and rotor.

Setup for UHF is a 9 element two lambda yagi. Beaming fixed to 60 deg.

Remote control using a USB ethernet hub from Belkin, usb-serial converters for CAT and CW keying. At home use Ham radio deluxe.

The Voice up/down using a couple of ip phones:Linksys SPA941 at home and SPA901 on the remote, using 64kbps Alaw codec.

I am also, the sysop of the EA5B-5 dx-cluster. The cluster is located at the remote site. I have upgraded recently the setup by using the TNC-Radio on the remote and the PC running DX-spider at home. I am using an old serial device server with Ethernet Lantronix UDS-10 and mounting directly on the Linux box using SOCAT. The result is a very low power consumption at the hill-top qth. The Linux box in reallity is a virtual machine, Debian 64 using VirtualBox. The host PC is an AMD AM3, 4GB DDR3, 200Gb HD, Running Debian Server 64. Prepared to serve Websdr Software when Bandwidth will available.

In winter time, I install a K9AY Rx Loop antenna for 160/80m. Our plan is putting a webSDR (www.websdr.org) at the Cluster`s QTH. For the moment we are waiting for any Institution (university or similar) to kindly give us some Uploading bandwidth and we will be able to make availabe this service to the ham community.

Note: When I was 14 I began my ham-radio activity with an old transceiver, homebrewed by EA5IU. Sometimes, in my dreams I was living on a Hill top and making lot of VHF communications. IT was a nice dream, but 8 years ago was a reality using technology and this year a have been able to remove the PC from the equation.

More details will follow when have some free time :)

Best wishes from Niceto
