Repeater Overview:

Currently running on Motorola GM360 equipment and V2000 antenna system linked to a Beagle Bone Black running Arch Linux with Asterisk add on and special code developed by Doug Crompton WA3DSP from  USA (Many thanks for your support). There are plans to futher develop and expand the repeater system. We are in the very early stages of the life of this repeater and as work and family ties allow, we will dramitically improve the system and its capabillities.

Please remember to leave 4 second pauses between overs and I do hope you enjoy the system.

More will follow.....

PLEASE BE AWARE: All Audio is recorded on this system for Ofcom logging purposes.

This Repeater is operated and managed by Nick M0NCZ and Jon M0RFU with support from the UK ALLSTAR HUB Network system operators.

Alternative ways to access GB3KU?

So What is Teamspeak?

Team Speak is a PTT (Push To Talk) application widley used by gamers across the globe, but which by its very deffination, has potential for amatuer radio use. This apllication along with the infrastructure provided by Gareth and Jon allows you to use a mobile phone based PTT handset, which can be used just like a HT but with the added benefit of having the same coverage and portability of the existing Cellular/WifI  network. Now I appreciate it may not be everyones cup of tea, but it allows you to have conversations and stay connnceted to GB3KU from anywhere with a 3G/4G or Wifi connection in the world.

My first choice will always be RF, but this system is another tool in the tool box.

Below is a link showing you the types of handsets:

Cellular/Wifi PTT Handsets

Below is a link to buy the handsets:

PTT Handsets available

Just a quick note about these F22/F25 handsets, they have an external cellular antenna (VERY RARE) and are designed for countries where the distance between the cell site and the handset can be up to 60 miles away.

12th May

Good news, found a GM340 UHF that I thought was broke and it works fine!!!

So the repeater is back up to normal power levels.

3rd May 2017

We have had an issue connecting to the WAN RS system for over a week and despite emailing the sys ops I have yet to receive a response. In the meantime I have set the Repeater to connect to both the Philidelphia Hub and the East Coast Reflector.

13th April 2017

Unfortunatly the replacement radio has developed a further fault on the tx audio which is causing a screeching sound to be transmitted on the outgoing rf audio intermittantly.

I have put the damaged tx final stage radio back on which is only outputting 2 watts at the back of the radio. I dont anticipate this will be fixed anytime soon.

Range of GB3KU will be greatly reduced for now.

Something is better than nothing. :O(

8th April 2017 1045

Software update completed, have migrated GB3KU onto a Beagle Bone Black (Needed the Pi for DMR). Replacement Motorola arrived this morning just as I was doing the software update so the Repeater is now back up to normal Power levels.

31st March 2017

Replacement radio has an RF power issue, have stoppe using and will need to send back, will try and hook up the ICOM Radio on Tuesday, so back to low RF power again till then, sorry. somthing is better than nothing.

Motorola Radio replaced and repeater now back up to normal power levels. SW Update will be done another time.

30th March 2017 11:25

Sorry Users/Listeners, was on call with work and we had 5 EE sites go down whilst I was in the midst of doing this so that had to take priority. Repeater NOT upgraded or Radio changed, should have it done tommorow.

Repeater is now off air for a software update, also the new Motorola replacement radio has arrived and will be programmed and activated today, so GB3KU will be back up to normal power levels. I hope to have the work completed by early this afternoon.

29th March 2017

Replacement Motorola sorted and being shipped today, should arrive tomorrow and will get it programmed up and put on GB3KU straight away. Repeater should be back to normal power levels from PM 30/03/2017.

25th March 2017

Unfortunatly the backup radio is playing up and I have had to swap it with the Motorola that was damaged by the Diplexer Fault. This is only outputting 2 Watts into the Diplexer, so actual ERP of the Repeater will be in the region of 2 watts once you factor in gains and losses. Sorry for this I am trying to sort this out, have downloaded a new SW build that will enable me to use the ICOM 2820 as a tempoary measure with the Rpi3 controlling CTCSS discrimanation. Hope to have this installed and working by Tuesday 28th March.

ICOM not suitable as Fan noise from the radio is being transmitted down the FOB. I am awaiting to secure a Motorola GM360 UHF which should hopefully be here by the end of the week.

24th March 2017

New Diamond (Origional) received and fitted to the main antenna and now both GB3KU and MB7IUK are back sharing the Diamond V-2000 antenna. There is an intermittant Spiralling fault on the TX of GB3KU, this is due to a final stage fault. I have orderd some replacement Motorolas which I hope to have by next week. Just have to put up with it for now i am afraid, but it works more than it doesnt.

March 21st 2017 - GB3KU has been suffering from low power output for quite some time, sadly this wasnt noticed as i live too close to have observed this. turns out the Duplexer used on the Diamond V2000 antenna was not an origional Diamond and a cheap chinese copy that basically went open circuit on the UHF path. this has blown the final stage on the Motorola GM360 which now only puts out 2 Watts. Luckily I have a spare which is now back up and running on 10 Watts (ERP of Repeater is 8dbW).

Currently the repeater is connected directly to the main antenna feeder.

I have oredered a replacement Diplexer (a Proper Diamond:O))

Will have it fitted hopefully when it should arrive on Friday.

Hopefully you should have noticed the signal from the repeater is back to where it should be.

I would like to welcome Gareth M6IGJ as a new supportor and operator of GB3KU.

TEAMSPEAK now available on GB3KU - Please contact M6IGJ for more info on using this fantastic access method.

New Rpi3 Software build installed and added Hawaii network back into scheduler.

Have re-configured the niode so it will connect at the top and bottom half of the hour to a network even if it has been disconnected. So you should only have no more than 30 mins of the node not being connected of there is a network fault. Still have to polish the build up with annoucements etc but should have it done soon.

GB3KU is operated and Managed by:

M0NCZ - Nick (Primary NOV Holder)

M0RFU - Jon (CDO)

M6IGJ - Gareth (GB3KU TEAMSPEAK System owner)
