I received my first callsign I1ZY in 1957.

In the early 70's, this call was changed to I0ZY according to the first number of the ZIP Code of Rome.

The calls 1x2 are the oldest in my country and are no longer assigned since the 60's.

The suffix ZY is unique and identifies everywhere in Italy the same operator.
In addition to the current station you can see my first QSL where there is a young I1ZY in front of one World War II era receiver and a homemade (2x807) AM transmitter.
I also hold a US extra class license and my call is K8OQ.

I'm a broad-spectrum radio amateur, I love DX, contests, DXpetitions
(KH6/K8OQ, 1A0KM, HV0A, 9X0R, A25ZY, II0ITA) and to be a "rag-chewer" as well, but my passion is the technical aspect of our hobby, especially designing equipment.

In more than half a century I have designed and built many receivers, transmitters (AM / SSB), synthesizers, transceivers etc.
In 1996 I designed an up-to-date (at that time) transceiver centered on the DSP Motorola 56303, I have also designed an innovative and well known line of solid state automatic linear amplifiers called "EXPERT".

After graduated with a PhD in electronics from the University of Rome, I worked for a few years at Ericsson where I became responsible for railway signaling.
In 1975 I founded my first company "SPE" which is still very active in the Telecom field. In 1995 I founded SPE Microsystems in California entirely devoted to the design of DSP chips.
I'm also the holder of several patents.

My current station is very simple but efficient; an IC 7800 transceiver and an Expert 2K-FA solid state automatic linear amplifier which feeds a wire antenna (40/80/160 m.), a two element quad (20, 17, 15, 12, 10 m), a four element quad on 6 m.
Except for the transceiver everything is homemade.
