Originally licensed as KNØVXU in 1959 in Independence, MO, I have held KØVXU since 1960.  As a young man I thoroughly enjoyed contesting and DXing but, over the years, have tried my hand at several other areas of amateur radio including rag chewing, handling written traffic, 2 meter VHF repeater operation, beacon operation on 10 meters, antenna experimentation, rig building, packet radio, RTTY, PSK31, SSTV, and other digital modes.

My operation is pretty much evenly divided between CW and SSB, 160 meters thorugh10 meters. I enjoy contesting and DXing and belong to the Kansas City Contest Club and the Kansas City DX Club. I also belong to CW Ops.  Since my retirement I have devoted my energies toward achieving DXCC Honor Roll status. Because I didn't pursue QSL cards until a couple of years ago, my totals are slowly inching upward. Also, the sluggish solar cycle 24 has not helped matters. Hopefully, this won't be my last solar cycle. See you on the HF bands!

I am the Trustee of KSØMO, the club callsign for the Kansas City Contest Club.  The club's membership is only 18, but we are very active contesters.  Look for KSØMO in all major contests and Field Day (as it NOT a contest...yeah, right).

In 2014 the members of FOC invited me to become a member (#2047) which I consider a great honor.  I look forward to meeting many of the other members on the bands and participating in special operating events.

As seen in the photo above my station consists of a K3 driving a Kenwood TL-922A amplifier.  Antennas are a triband yagi for 20-15-10 meters (TH6DXX); a set of sloping Vees for 80, 40, 30, 17, and 12 meters off a single feedpoint for which the center is 45 feet above ground and the ends range from 20 to 35 feet above ground; and an inverted L (55 feet vertical and 91 feet horizontal) for 160.  The antennas are switched remotely at the tower.

In 2016, I raised the TH6DXX to 60 feet to clear the trees.

Recently raised TH6DXX to 60 feet to clear the trees.

As of May, 2017 Vicki and I now have 5 grandchildren, four of whom

are pictured below.  The 5th, Palmer, will soon be pictured.

I QSL via Direct, LoTW, and e-QSL and bureau, but I prefer LoTW.
