Ham Member Lookups: 32642

Note: For W0K QSLs, please use LOTW, or send a SASE ($2 for DX) to K3PA.

I have been a ham since 1972, first licensed in Bucks County, Pennsylvania as WN3SXU. I've been in Kansas since 2000, and moved to find a bit more legroom in Leavenworth County in 2012.  I enjoy DXing and contesting on 160 through 6 meters, especially CW.  My current goal is to qualify for the WRTC 2018 Radiosport Olympics in Germany.

I'm a member of: Kansas City Contest Club, Frankford Radio Club, Kansas City DX Club, ARRL (Life Member), and CW Ops.

The current station consists of  a JK Mid-Tri-40 10/15/20/40 interlaced yagi (2 el on 40, 3 on 20, 4 on 15, 5 on 10), and a homebrew 5 element 6m yagi @ 90 feet on a single tower.  A four square array for 80M, and an 160M Inverted-L complete the low bands.  All radials are ground level, and all towers and antennas are unguyed, for a clean appearance and XYL approval.  For receive, 600 foot reversible Beverages for NE/SW, and NW/SE are in use.  A second tower with LPDA is in planning, and a YCCC vertical receive array is contemplated.  Equipment is SO2R using a Yaesu FTDX5000 plus Acom A2000 autotune amp and a Elecraft K3 plus Acom A1000 amp.  Antenna switching, band filters, etc are fully automated and PC interfaced.  2M & 450 MHz FM are also on hand.

A 160/80/40/30/20/17/15 M CW Skimmer is in local operation using a QS1R SDR and a buffered high impedance vertical.  A second 6/10/12/15 CW Skimmer uses a horizontal omni (Squalo) antenna and low noise preamp also to a QS1R.  All skimmers are active on the RBN.

Some of my DXCC totals are:

  • Mixed       348   (Honor Roll)
  • CW          346   (Honor Roll)
  • SSB         343   (Honor Roll)
  • RTTY        312
  • Challenge  2652

I'm always happy to help with a schedule for those needing Kansas or Leavenworth County on any band or mode.

About QSLing:  While I am very excited to work you on the air, unless you are rare, I probably do not need your QSL card.  Both incoming and outgoing QSLs bureaus are getting quite expensive in the USA.  These are not paid for by our ARRL membership as yours might be.  As one example, I receive about 100 JA QSL cards via bureau each month, and I am required to pay for incoming shipment.  As you can imagine, I am not in need of JA cards.  I am perhaps more in need of large moving crates for JA cards.  This is also true for DL, and most of Europe.  So, JA and Europe, I know you are trying to be nice, but please don't mass ship cards for every QSO to USA.  We cannot afford it!

I am absolutely committed to getting you a USA/Kansas/Leavenworth County card if you need one.  This said, I will not reply to cards received via bureau that seem to just be mass printed.  So, if you would like my card, please use one of the methods below.

  1. LOTW is always best and should be your top choice for DXCC, WAS, etc.
  2. I also upload to eQSL, though I do not find this to be particularly useful.  But my QSO is there if you need it.
  3. If you email to let me know that you need a card, I will be glad to send it via bureau.  I do not need your card unless I ask.
  4. Of course, direct mail requests with return US postage (or US $2 for DX) will be replied to quickly and 100%.

I hope to see you on the bands!

Drew K3PA
