Welcome to the K4IP QRZ.COM page!

I am currently located in Altus, Oklahoma in the far southwest corner of the state. This is the home to Altus Air Force Base, the USAF's school house for KC-135R and C-17A aircrews. I am an active duty USAF KC-135 instructor pilot. I have also been stationed in Okinawa, Japan and McConnell AFB, KS.

I was first licensed in 1994 as KE4IEY. I went off-the-air as I attended college at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida, Undergraduate Pilot Trianing in Enid, Oklahoma, and my first duty station in Japan. When I was assigned back to the CONUS, I upgraded to extra class and changed my callsign to K4IP (Instructor Pilot) in 2009.

Since I move every three years, I have a very simple shack. I'm active on 2m/70cm, APRS, and 80/40/20/15/10 meter bands, SSB and PSK31. In the shack, I run dual Kenwood V71As one of which is used for packet/APRS and weather reporting via a PK-88 TNC. For HF I've got IC-746 that I run <100W with an LDG IT-100 tuner. I use PSK via digipan software and a signalink USB interface.

All my antennas are mounted to a 6' mast located at the apex of my roof, approximately 30' high. I run two 2m/70cm vertical ground plane antennas and a Alfa Delta DX-CC multiband (80 to 10m) dipole. The weather sensors are also mounted to this mast.

To get around quicker and to fly for fun, I also own and operate a 1969 Piper Arrow 200. While I don't have any permanent ham equipment installed, I am known to run aeronautical mobile via HT (IC-91AD), hand mic, and audio jumper directly into the "aux" jack on my headset. I also occasionally run aeronatuical mobile APRS (K4IP-11) via a Byonics TinyTrak3, puck GPS, and Wouxun handheld.
