Greetings from Arkansas!  Unlike the trend today, I prefer old-fashioned ragchews, getting to know others.

Arkansas QSO Party operating note:  on 5/13/'17, K5XK/p operated portable from the Marion/Baxter County line during the 2017 Arkansas QSO Party.  Thanks for almost 400 AR QP QSOs from our campground setup!

As an OF of 70, I've been on-air for 56 years, since the age of 14.  For me, it all started when I was a Boy Scout learning to build a simple "oatmeal box" crystal radio project.  Former calls: WN5BQI ('62), WA5BQI ('63-76), DA2ER & DL5AG ('70-73), and DL/K5XK, OE/K5XK, & HB0/K5XK (2011).

My XYL Debbie (N5WEX, not active) and I live in a terrific resort & retirement area in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains.  Our QTH is Benton County, AR, grid locator EM26uk, on the AR/MO border in extreme NW Arkansas.

As a longtime Ten-Tec fan, the gear currently includes a Ten-Tec OMNI VII transceiver and an Ameritron AL-80A QSK amp.  Sad to report, my beloved 2 el 5 band HF Quad will soon be removed.  What a great antenna!  But in my case,  the fiberglass spreaders were just too service-intensive!  After a rebuild and numerous repairs, I'm moving on.  The replacement will be a K4KIO Hexbeam.  I hope I won't be too disappointed..stay tuned.

I favor CW, but also ragchew on SSB (hosting a local & regional 3820 Roundtable on 75 Meters each Sunday @ 2200utc.  We're joined regularly by a large number of "Who's Who" hams from around the 4-States area of AR/MO/OK/KS.  We always have interesting participants & discussion topics.  Join us!

I also casually chase DX, enjoy Field Day & an occasional Contest.

Former DXCC Honor Roll member.  Current member ARRL, FOC (#1641), and locally am a member of the Bella Vista and ARKAN radio clubs, and a charter member of the Ozark Wireless Society.  A wonderful resource to find out what's going on in NW AR region radio circles is the http://bellavistaradioclub.org/ website.

What a great hobby! As the late Dave Bell, W6AQ-SK, calls it in his wonderful book...it's truly the "World's Best Hobby!" I highly recommend Dave's book, readily available in hard copy or Kindle format.

73 from NW Arkansas!   Ron, K5XK
