Welcome to the QRZ page of the Mora Open Repeater Association [aka: M.O.R.A.], a 501.c.3 non-profit Amateur Radio organization based in Mora Minnesota.

Our association is dedicated to the growth of Amateur Radio in Kanabec and surrounding counties of East Central Minnesota. We invite all interested radio hobbyists in the area to join us in that effort.

M.O.R.A. is a public service oriented organization. We support our VHF Repeater at Ogilvie, Kanabec County Skywarn, EMESNET, and the Central Minnesota Regional Hospital Net. We also support each other by sponsoring Amateur Radio Licensing Classes, ARRL/VE Testing Sessions, and local Skywarn training seminars, and by providing help when needed for Amateur Radio operators in Kanabec and surrounding counties.

M.O.R.A. activities include the annual Chili Cookoff in January, ARRL Field Day in June, the Kanabec County Fair & Parade in July, and the annual KDØCI Cookout in August! We occasionally have extra curricular activities such as antenna workshops. Our biggest social event of the year is the annual Christmas Party & Awards Banquet in December.

Our association holds open business meetings each month except February, August and December. Yearly meeting schedules are prepared in October, then posted on the "Information" page of our website. Business meetings held on Saturdays are at 9:00 AM in the "Banquet Room" at Freddie's Restaurant, located at 810 South Highway 65 [next to the GM dealership] in Mora. Breakfast may be ordered from the menu. Thursday meetings usually start at 6:00 PM, are held at various locations in the Mora area, and include a Pot Luck meal and a training session.

Additionally, the Board of Directors may be called together for any urgent business matters when necessary.

M.O.R.A. History

M.O.R.A. was originally organized from a larger informal group of amateurs during the 1970's. The main activities of this group was to support the old 146.790 Megaherz repeater located in Mora, and to provide communications support for the annual Vasaloppet Cross Country Ski Race.

As the older members either moved away, became inactive, or became silent keys, and with no new amateurs joining, the 79 repeater was eventually shut down, the frequency allocation was lost, and by the early 1990's the club had become inactive.

In 2007, a new group of licensed amateurs emerged. Among them was Joan Fluegge, KDØBUT, who expressed an interest to start an amateur radio club. Along with the new Hams were a few from the original group, and together the idea turned toward resurrecting M.O.R.A. On the evening of March 13th 2008, this new group met at the old Bowe's Resort on Knife Lake north of Mora, and formally reactivated the club.

M.O.R.A. officially became incorporated by the state of Minnesota on July 27th 2015, and became ARRL Affiliated on January 25th 2016.
