I was first licensed as KA2AEW in 1978 as a Novice class operator. My rig consisted of a Kenwood TS-520S, a converted 11 meter beam, and a TenTec paddle keyer. Since that time I have upgraded my license to General, Advanced, and eventually to Amateur Extra (20 WPM CW). I changed callsigns to KG2GT after earning the Advanced license and finally settled on my current callsign KG2S after passing my Extra class license.
Station Tower
From my station in Camden, NY I operate all bands from 160 - 10 and 2 meters. At the top of my US Tower TX-455 I have a Tennadyne T-6 log periodic, a Cushcraft D-40 rotatable dipole, and a Cushcraft 13B2 2 meter beam. Between the tower and my pine tree, I have a 30 meter delta loop. I also have a homebrew fan dipole for 160 and 80 meters that provides resonance across a good portion of 160 and 80. I recently added a new coax wound RF choke (on a 4" PVC pipe) and now I can use my RF amplifier on 160 meters. This is the view of the tower and three of the antennas.
I have tried many antennas for 30 meters, but have never been satisfied with their performance. My first dedicated 30 meter antenna was a sloping dipole off the tower. This antenna performed equally poor in all directions. My next antenna was a homebrew vertical mounted at ground level. Despite my initial tests with a minimal set of radials, this antenna never really worked all that great. The performance was further challenged with my lawn mower chewing up the radials every spring and summer! In the spring of 2016, I decided to rebuild a Butternut HF6V antenna that had been damaged sometime in the past. Although this antenna offers multiple bands, it too didn't work all that well with the minimal radials on my lawn.  My newest addition to the antenna farm is a homebrew 30 meter delta loop that is fed at the corner of the triangle with a short piece of RG6 coaxial cable. The loop is positioned between a giant White Pine tree and my tower. Although I need to test it more, I am extremely happy with the performance and it also offers a 1:1 VSWR to my transmitter.
Ham Shack
The first picture of the shack shows my Kenwood TS-590SG, Uniden BCD536HP, and a Kenwood TM-261A. I turn the antennas with a Yaesu G-450A rotor and switch antennas via an Ameritron RCS-4 switch box.
The second picture (below) shows my MFJ-989D antenna tuner and the Ameritron AL-80B amplifier. The amplifier works flawlessly, but the tuner leaves something to be desired. I have replaced the meter circuitry several times (diode and capacitor) to keep it working. Overall, the meter on the tuner is poorly designed and does not tolerate common mode current on the wire.
I am a Life Member of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL). If you need a QSL card, I am active on LoTW and eQSL. I also have a full stock of colorful new QSL cards if you desire the real thing!
