I received Technician license on June 21, 2010, and my General on August 23, 2010.  I graduated from myYaesu VX-7R hand-held and Diamond 2000A external antenna to HF with a Yaesu FT-950 running barefoot and a Comet CHA 250B multi-band vertical. I've got the vertical at 20' and it works just fine even though factory specs say 34".

Since some initial bad experiences with some of the "lids" who hang out on 75M, I've learned to listen before I push the PTT button.  But I haven't forgotten my friends in the VHF/UHF world.  Friday nights (8:00 p.m. Pacific Time) on the San Diego 6-Shooters' net on 53.580 is a must! Come join us; 6M is not for the feint-hearted!

I also built a JOYSTICK multi-band vertical antenna that works great,  It's only 100 inches long and 8 feet off the ground.  It's based on a 1960s British vertical that was marketed commercially.  It's an easy build and has been resonant from 160M TO 10M. Google "joystick antenna," and you'll see lots of information about it.  Here's a link: www.hamuniverse.com/wa3wzrjoystick.html.

I also enjoy the WARFA net (Western Amateur Radion Friendship Net), which meets on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, beginning at 03:00 Zulu this time of year (watch out for daylight savings time changes).  Check in 52 times within one year and earn a really nice certificate.  And it's all free.  Check out their website.  At this writing, I've checked in 88 times since January 11, 2011.

And also check out the Ohana ("family"in Hawaiian), at 1700 Zulu seven days per week at 14.267 Monday through Friday and 14.307 Saturday and Sunday.  It's a widespread net, both Hawaii and the mainland, including Canada and the Pacific Northwest, and some New Zealanders even join in!

Hope to work all of you down the log some day.

73s to All!
