I got started at a younger age showing a strong interest in how things like radio and television worked. Later on I got interested in scanning and had heard of amateur radio but never had an opportunity to get licensed.

In 2005 I was working part-time for a radio station as a board operator and wanted to expand my knowledge of broadcast engineering so I took the initiative to begin studying for my Technician class license and passed my exam later that Fall.

In 2007 I successfully upgraded to General class after getting involved with a local amateur radio club that offered a multi-week class that ended with a testing session. In 2015 I would upgrade to Extra class after taking a similar class with that same amateur radio club. The Oregon Tualatin Valley Amateur Radio Club was instrumental in my success and I thank them for helping me stay motivated.

I've been a volunteer with the Washington County ARES/RACES since 2014 and currently administrate their D-STAR repeater (http://washcoares.org/?page_id=547). Most recently I'm working with wireless mesh networks in order to help develop a high-speed amateur radio network here in Washington County, Oregon.

Today I'm a broadcast engineer with Sinclair Broadcast Group at KATU Channel 2 in Portland, Oregon (including KUNP) and love getting out to our transmitter sites (especially the remote translator sites) to enjoy the view!

Mesh Networking:
I support the efforts of both the Amateur Radio Emergency Data Network (AREDN) and the Broadband-Hamnet (BBHN) and have been hosting a monthly meeting in Hillsboro, Oregon for those interested in mesh networking to get together and learn new things. More information can be found at http://hsmm.oadn.us/ about those meetings.
