I'm a new-ish ham, got my license at the end of July 2011 - So far, it's all been about exploring and enjoying this great hobby.
I don't yet have a favourite mode, but my goal is to try everything a few times and see where that brings me.
I keep a blog of my amateur radio adventures here www.bobgoyetche.com/ve2pdt and I'll be adding to this bio over time.
My main rig is a Yaesu FT-897D, running barefoot into a 20M half wave sloper. I've an Antron 99 for 10-12 Meters, and a Diamond X-30A for VHF/UHF. There's an MFJ-993B auto tuner in there too.. I'm on a small lot, so my next challenge is getting something that will perform on 40M and may be even 80m.
At the end of summer 2012, I added an FT-857D to the Jeep, so I'm enjoying mobile HF as well, better than anything on broadcast radio!
I added QRP to my hobbies with the X1M QRP Transceiver when it came out, then it died and I decided to get a real radio, the FT817ND this summer - love backpacking with it, just don't do enough yet!
I love the "Do it Yourself" side to ham radio, and am enjoying building almost as much as operating.
thanks for reading!
73 to you!
