Thanks for visiting my page and hope we have met on the air too. My radio interests have always centered around my love of CW and it has been my only mode of communications on the HF bands since the day I was first licensed. I chase DX mostly on the WARC bands (currently at 221 DXCC), act as Net Control 3 nights each week for the Tenth District Cycle 4 NTS traffic net on the 80-meter band, and enjoy a good CW rag-chew.

I am a member of the ARRL A-1 Operator Club and volunteer as the webmaster for the ARRL Midwest Division website and for the ARRL Zero Bureau W0QSL website. I am a member of the QCWA, FISTS #10264, SKCC #1078, NAQCC #1455, and CWops #446.

I am a member of the OMIK Amateur Radio Association, Inc. and currently act as the club's Secretary (www.omikradio.org).

My station is a Ten Tec Jupiter with an assortment of keys, both new and vintage, and an assortment of wire antennas including a 160m Inverted L, 80m Doublet, 40m Vertical Dipole (Force 12 Sigma 40), WARC Band Fan Dipole, and 12m Vertical Dipole. I run a barefoot station only.

I retired in 2005 after 37 years as a high school science teacher.  For a number of years in the 1980's had a high school Ham radio club station and still know the value of programs that help youth reach their potential as they grow toward adulthood.  Since retiring I have volunteered my time for a youth NonProfit here is St. Louis called St. Louis BWorks - which provides programs at no cost to any youth between the ages of 8 and 17 years through its four programs: Earn-A-Bike, Learn-To-Ride, Earn-A-Computer, and Create-A-Book.  If you are interested in learning more please visit www.bworks.org.

Please QSL me directly or via the Bureau system. Visit me at My HAM Radio Website or visit my On-line Journal.

One of the antique keying styles that I enjoy is that of the sideswiper (cootie) key. I belong to the SideSwiper Net, a group of Hams that use and enjoy this historic style of keying. If you are interested, here is a link to an article by Jerry, KD0CA, "The Art Of Side-Swipery".  If you would like to work me when I am using a Cootie/Sideswiper key I am probably on either 7.030 or 10.112 MHz.

Kingston's First CW Contact

The picture here is my grandson Kingston and I working some 40m CW - Talking to Dit, W8IX/4, from his Florida location on December 21, 2016.

King was 20 months old, as of Christmas 2016, and has his own practice CW key and loves the radio!  Maybe a new HAM in a few more years!

Below are my favorite keys.  I use a cootie key for almost all of my general QSO's and the paddles for DX'ing and NTS Traffic System net work.

Begali HST Mk III (sideswiper/cootie key & single lever paddle) #802

I enjoy using the HST as both a cootie key and paddle.

UR5CDX's CT755MB (single lever)

Made by my friend Yury and is as smooth as it is beautiful.
