W0U - 2017 Kansas QSO Party Info

W0U - Putting the "U" in Sunflower

Thanks for checking in for the 2017 Kansas QSO Party!

Besides 24 plaques, 15+ mobiles, and all 105 counties active both CW and SSB, we have 51 1x1 calls spelling KANSAS, SUNFLOWER, QSOPARTY and BISON (the state mammal) using the last letter of the call.

New for 2017, we've added a USA Single-Op CW "filtered" plaque. You can operate mixed mode to find all the 1x1 calls, and we will rescore your log to find the op with the highest CW score. We do the same thing checking for Sunday contacts.  Work both days and all modes and still be eligible for both plaques!

This year we continue using the certificate from the past two years which displays all nine of our antique radio stamps.  You can  choose one stamp for each word spelled up to three.  We've added BISON as a new, short spelling word to make this even easier.

Here's a look at the design of the 2017 Kansas QSO Party Certificate!

Our new stamp for 2017 is the 1973 Progress in Electronics Transistor stamp. We also have a drawing for the chance to win our solid maple laser-engraved made-in-Kansas plaque, the same one category winners take home. To enter the drawing, just turn in a log. The more 1x1 calls you work, the more chances you have to win. Working BONUS station KS0KS counts as a wild card in the spelling challenge.

Here's a close-up look at all nine of the stamps.

Here's a direct link to a "Checklist" containing all 51 Special Event (1x1) callsigns - 1x1 OperatorsHope you can join the fun! A PDF file contain the official rules of this years event and other information like a list of all activated counties can be found on the Kansas QSO Party web site. Here's the link:  http://www.ksqsoparty.org/

The KSQP Rules allow spotting, so thanks in advance for putting us (and all the other Kansas stations) up on the spotting nets. If you need QSL confirmation, follow the instructions below.

eQSL and LOTW will be updated after the QSO Party. QSL direct only (SASE please) to W0U, % K0HYD, 23440 W US Highway 54, Goddard, KS 67052. More info available by going to my home QRZ page.

With 45 Kansas 1x1 calls, the bands will be hopping so I'll try to find a place to settle in. Look for me around 14240 KHz, 7240 KHz, 21340 KHz and 28440 (if 10 meters is open) on SSB

In 2015 I designed a Special Kansas QSO Party QSL card for W0U. I've ordered several hundred cards from Amanda, K1DDN, at Pikes Peak Printing in Canon City, CO. I'll be sending them out againt his year. If you would like one of these unique cards featuring the sunflower below, send your QSL with a SASE to the address above and I'll make sure you get one.

Again thanks to you I was able to make 1150 contacts for  2300 points with 54 multipliers which totalled 145,152 compared to the 1067 contacts in 2015. If you like Kansas sunsets, here's a bonus photo to complement the Kansas sunflower below. Enjoy!

Thanks again for joining us for the Kansas QSO Party. Have a Blast!
