I was first licensed as a Novice in June 1956 as KN4KUZ. I passed my General in 1957 and become K4KUZ. I did quite a bit of operating and even a little DXing until 1960 when I left for college. I was off the air for almost 19 years, going to medical school, earning a living and raising a family. We moved to Plantation, FL, in 1976, our first house, and I was back on the air 3 years later. I soon found out that being a General was no fun and a few months later I passed my Extra. I embraced DXing and contesting with a passion - I reached Top of the Honor Roll in 1993. I have been on the front cover of CQ Magazine in April 1991 and May 1994. I am past President of the South Florida DX Association and a member of the Florida Contest Group. In 1997 I became W4UM, after a brief stint as K2SO. When not playing radio, I practice as a neuroradiologist and an attorney. My wife, Sherry, W4SLR, is very active on 6M. In 1998 we both guest operated the CQ-M Contest as A47RS. I operated from NA 008 as VY0/W4UM in April 1999 and from NA-141, Hutchinson Island, for the 2007 IOTA Contest, as W4H. Besides chasing new band countries for the ARRL Challenge Award, I am an IOTA chaser.  In 2003, we moved on the water to Sewall's Point, FL, where we are height-challenged. Life is full of compromises!
