I was first licensed as a novice in 1960 but let my license expire and made no attempts to upgrade. Living in El Paso, Texas as a UPS manager in 1976 I met some really good friends who were all studying to get their novice license.  I joined the group and the W5ES club and got my Novice License in 76 then my General in a few days, then Advanced and a Extra within 6 months.  I moved all over with UPS, had a couple of big stations and was KB5RA.  I have 307 countries worked with 301 confired.  I have not been active since 1992.  In 2016 I am back on the air with a Hex Beam.  My rig is a Yaesu DX3000.

I could never find a call I wanted to so I kept KB5RA until about 10 years ago I did a vanity and got my current call AB9Z, which I like.

I retired from UPS as a Executive Vice President in 2001 after 31 years and opened a Micro Lending Company based in Hong Kong.  The company did business in China, Vietnam, and the Phillippines.  I lived in Hong Kong for several years.  I sold the company end of 2015 and returned to my childhood roots in Ozarks of NW Arkansas.

I have lived and worked all over the USA plus the Caribbean, England, Hong Kong, and the Phillippines.  I have been to 124 countries in my lifetime.   Now I am done traveling, building companies and consulting.  I am back near where my life all began.  I am a blessed man to have seen the world.  My friends tell me I have had 3 lives from my accomplishments.  Not bad for a farm boy who was the first in his family history to get a high school diploma.

I hold a BS in Finance from UTEP and a MBA from Michigan State University as well as an Executive MBA from Wharton Business School.

I am a proud Veteran of the Vietnam Era.  I was drafted in 1966 and was selected for OCS and become an Officer.  I was discharged in 1970 as a Captain but remained active in the Army Reserve.   My career at UPS was on a rocketship so I left the Army Reserve in 1977.

I am currently working on my life story.
