6Y5/DL5DI  qrv from Negril / West coast of Jamaica from May 22nd to June 2nd 2015:

No full-time DXpedition, no special equipment, just vacation with my wife, but nevertheless I found some time for a few QSOs with my FT897 and a dipole. The condx to Europe were very poor, but I was able to work several countries from North and South America which I missed yet in my logs and where I would have to work hard to get it from home.

Thanks to all contacts that I worked mainly in BPSK31 and to several thousands of reports in WSPR!
The longest distance in WSPR was reported by ZL1RS in loc RF64vs on June 1st 02:22UT with -12dB SNR over 12770km.
My working condx were 5W/37dbm at an inverted V dipol just 6m above ground at the hotel room!

My history:

I was born in 1960 and have my amateur radio license since school.

My main focus was always digital technology.
I started with RTTY. After some time with heavy mechnical machines I run a RTTY-repeater in the 1980s on first available homebrew computer systems, jumped on Packet-Radio when it came up in Europe, set up several linked digipeaters, mailboxes, gateways etc..
APRS servers, IGates, DX-Cluster on internet and hamnet/amprnet and other digital services followed in the next years.
In 1993 we founded the local packet-radio-group "PRGM" which is still supporting the new developments today.

Later I developed the "Telpac gateway", which is a Winlink Packet-Radio gateway software for Linux.
This software allows to connect to the worldwide Winlink network via radio and send emails to the internet.
Together with Brian W3SG this was developed to the actual RMS-Gateway for Linux.
At my stations DB0LJ on UHF and DA5UDI on HF it allows Pactor and Packet-Radio access since 2003.

Since the early days of DSTAR I worked with digital voice.
Together with Jann DG8NGN and Michael DL1BFF we set up the worldwide ircDDB network which allows to connect homebrew repeaters to the Icom hardware based US-trust network and was the base for a lot of homebrew hard- and software.
ircDDB is still today the leading DSTAR network worldwide, together with newer systems for other purposes like CCS and DCS.

Since 2011 I am working with DMR.
I first developed the "DMR monitor" to make the activities in the worldwide network system more public visible.
Based on this I developed and run the DMR registration system for Europe and Africa which runs since 2014 in close sync with the US registration system.

Together with Torsten DG1HT we set up the DMRplus network end of 2013, which is again a network based on homebrew network technology for Amateur Radio. This system is currently under development and will be able to connect different DMR and DSTAR systems to one worldwide communication system.

More information on my developments can be found at http://dl5di.prgm.org and http://download.prgm.org/dl5di-soft

I am member of the VHF/UHF/SHF department of the German Amateur Radio Club (DARC), responsible for digital voice activities, referent in the local district and coordinator for Hamnet in Rhineland-Palatinate.

I am member of DARC OV Neuwied, DOK K08.

Beside the digital data and voice activities on the higher bands I am also active on HF bands.
My station was updated in 2016. The former Flex3000 SDR-Transceiver and the portable FT897 were replaced by an Icom IC7300 which works in my shack in addition to an Icom IC756pro3 and a Kenwood TS2000S.
An old Kenwood power amplifier TL922 and a ZZ750-PA were replaced by a SPE Expert 1k-FA solid state linear amplifier with integrated automatic tuner.
The 4 Element 5 band Fritzel beam is planned to be replaced in 2017 by a new antenna system.

Many other toys came together during the last 30 years and allow nice contacts.
I prefer PSK31 and other digital modes.

Maybe we will meet one day on the bands.
